Suckin' A Monkey

The current economy situation annoys me. The government has gone about things the wrong way. How could they have overlooked the most obvious answer to this whole situation? I guess they are cruising along in their Beemers with blinders on.

First they hand a package to the banking institution. Instead of making the banks account for each and every penny given to them, they just hand over the cash and turn their backs. Obama strolls along and says, "What the fuck did you do with that cash, bitches?" The banks laugh at him. They refuse to say anything, tell anything, but we all know what they did with it. They lined the pockets of their executives and stashed the rest away.

What the banks should have done was start giving out loans. They refuse to do that. Instead of loaning money, they're trying to turn the screws on first time home buyers. No, you can't get a mortgage unless you have at least 30% cash down payment. Oh what a way to boost the economy, isn't it?

Not only that, but they are desperately trying to shift the blame over the mortgage mess. Mess is quite the understatement. Instead of accepting partial responsibility for the senseless slaughter of thousands of people and their homes, they would prefer to point the finger at the consumer. Yay! Let's shift blame. We all know that the banks are oh-so-innocent and would never do no wrong.

"-- U.S. unemployment rate jumps to 8.1 percent in February, the worst since December 1983."

This is what an email stated that I received from CNN this afternoon. All I can do is shake my head. I've been doing that a lot since the economy crash and the now infamous bailouts for banks and car manufacturers.

Do you know what would've been simple? Do you know what would have jump started the economy? Do you have any inkling as to what SHOULD have happened?

I'll let you think about it for a minute.

Instead of handing money to those who were not held accountable to where it went and how it was spent, the money should have gone to the American people. Instead of handing oodles of money to car manufacturers, they should have given the money to the American people.

Do you notice similiarities between those two statements?

If they were to take the billions of dollars that was doled out as part of the bailouts, each family in the US probably would have received a check for half a million dollars or more.

Whoa! Half a million dollars? Yes!!

If a half a million dollars was given to people in the US, guess what? THEY WOULD HAVE SPENT IT!

Isn't this what this country needs? Doesn't it need people to start pumping money back into the economy?

D'oh!!

How silly of the government to think that monies given to (and hidden away) banks was going to jump start things! How silly of the government to think that monies given to car manufacturers was going to jump start things.

I got news for them. You can't expect the car industry to start raking in the bucks when the American public doesn't have two fucking dimes to rub together. How hard is that to figure out?

If each family was dispensed a specific amount of money, mortgages would get paid off (yay for banks), cars would be bought (yay for the car industry) and Walmart's profits would sky rocket through the air!!

But no, let's put aside money so we can build more bridges and repair roads. I know that JimBob, former V.P. of Chrysler, will really want to don a neon orange vest and pour hot tar on the roads. Gimme a break!

It ain't over until the fat lady sings, and I am not that far into my singing lessons. Gimme another 10, 20 or 30 years, okay?

It's about how long it's going to take to dig ourselves out of this hole.
